Posted by kilohana under My Style, fashion trends, shoes, shopping

Shoes have never been so beautifully weird as they are now. Check out these that are weird, yet strangely attractive.

These gold ones are so FIERCE! I don’t know what it is about them, but I would definitely sport these. These should be called Pedicure Time Winking, because you must have pretty feet to wear ‘em.

How adorable are these teal shoes. They are a little too weird, even for me. But they are still dainty adorable.

Nail Polish Origins

Posted by kilohana under fashion, fashion trends, make-up

You can’t feel completely dressed without having your nails perfectly manicured. Whether you are an "ah naturale girl" or a "fake and fabulous" one, you know you aren’t FIERCE without fabulous nails. So while you are getting your next fix of lacquer love, think where did nail polish come from.

Nail polish was first originated in 3000 B.C. by the Chinese. They used a colored lacquer mixture of flower petals and alum to make their polish. The longer it stayed on the more it changed color, going from pink to red. Soon after this Japanese and Italians began using it to polish their nails. How cool! And then the creative Egyptians started with reddish-brown stains, referred to today as henna dyes, to color their finger tips and nails. If you think back to movies and recreations of Egyptians you will remember the beautiful paints they had on their hands, body and face. Simply beautiful, oh to be able to do it up like them Day dreaming. This color on them signified social order, today it is just something we do to look and feel beautiful.

The polish we use today was created around the 1920’s and was inspired by, can you believe it, car paint. This is the time that nail enamel was brought about. Today nail polish is everywhere and on everyone. You can find nail polish in matte, glitter, glossy, clear, and a whole scope of colors. If you can think it up, you can find the color for your nails.

Housewarming

Posted by kilohana under My Style, Party Time!, cool tips

Who doesn’t love a party. Any reason to give a party and I am all for it! Why not throw a housewarming. Whether it is yours or for a friend you can have plenty of fun and get a few nice gifts, too Big Grin. The key to remember when throwing your housewarming is to keep it casual and comfortable.

Start sending out invites a week or so before the planned event and remember to invite some new neighbors. It’s always a good thing to stay in good with neighbors, so make friends early on. When planning the event you can have it as a potluck, just drinks, or a barbecue. I like to have a casual potluck dinner with games and entertainment. You can also have it as an open house, where you take attendees on a tour of the new home.

Housewarming’s are generally thrown once you are completely moved in or within the first 2 months of moving in. You can have one for a new move, a renovation or a remodel. Really, any acceptable reason to throw a housewarming you can think of is fine!

Sit back and enjoy your casual affair!!

Liars

Posted by kilohana under I notice, Relationships, cool tips

liar I can’t even count on my hands and feet how many times I wished I could read someone’s mind. Sometimes, I wish life was like the movies where you could just look at someone and hear their thoughts, then again they would probably be reading mine too, so never mind on that. But, seriously, how many times have you told someone just what they wanted to hear….I know I have many many times…better to lie than hurt someone’s feelings. Just like some times call for a lie to be nice, other times there is no excuse to lie. These are the times you may need to become more aware of the situation and the person.      By just paying attention, you can notice some things that will key you in on a lie. When someone is guilty they may:

  • become very defensive
  • body language - not looking you in the eye, being fidgety, acting nervous or uncomfortable, arms or legs will face the exits, looking up to the right
  • Mistaken memories - stories/events constantly change
  • Projected feelings - telling you you are lying
  • Touches the face - touches the cheek, mouth or nose
  • Rise in voice pitch
  • Pause in speaking - needing time to think before answering

Remember that the person’s normal behavior has to be taken into consideration. If the person is an awkward, fidgety, uncomfortable person normally, then this definitely won’t work for them. This is more for the cool, calm collective people. Any noticeable change in behavior can clue you in that something is going on. Pay attention and be alert to what is said and done and you may start noticing things….

backwards In an earlier post, I hinted at the fact that this shoe, currently by Marc Jacobs is the next big thing. Well it officially came out on runways in the NY Fashion Week in 2007 right before Winter. The only thing forward about these shoes is the fact that they are "fashion forward" right now. I wonder what everyone was thinking at that fashion show. I think "Stunned" could sum it up in one word. The shoes measuring in at 4 inches high, although quite pretty, can be nothing but horrific to walk in. Imagine wearing shoes, let me correct that HEELS, that you can never apply weight to the back of the shoe or you will come tumbling down. Perfect for Ballet Dancers maybe not so much the rest of us, you surely will perfect walking on your toes wearing these.

One positive I can think of is, it has to be one heck of  a workout for your calves. Imagine a High Heel Shoe minus the heel, it’s ridiculous, yet, oh so sexy! They seem to be slowly trickling into the mainstream and we are sure to see more and more celebrities wearing them. These are sure to be a HUGE hit fast, in the lime light fashion is everything.

Would you trade being able to stay upright with wearing gorgeous "fashionable" shoes? What can they possible think of next, no heels at all??

How to save your lipstick

Posted by kilohana under I notice, cool tips, fashion

resize_lipstick04

Have you ever broken or left your lipstick in the car, and it melted so you just threw it away because it was unusable? Well you no longer have to get rid of your lipsticks. Lipsticks can be expensive so anyway you can save them, you should.

If it melts from being in the car, don’t take the top off, just turn it upright and put it in the refrigerator for about an hour. This will reset the lipstick so you can still use it. It may not be as pretty but it still does the job.

When the lipstick stick breaks you can easily attach it back to the base, if it hasn’t completely fallen out of the tube. Heat the bottom of the lipstick with a blow dryer on low and press the lipstick back into the base of the tube. The heat should attach the lipstick to the lipstick container.

Another smart and easy trick, if you’ve used all the lipstick out of the top or broken the top of the lipstick, you can simply melt it down. You can put the lipstick in the microwave for a few seconds, just until it melts, and then pour it into a palette. It can be poured into any container you choose, like a lip gloss pot, contact lens case, or a pill case. Now you can use your lipstick with a brush. This is a neat way of getting more use out of your lipstick.

Olive Oil Benefits

Posted by kilohana under Health, cool tips

olive oil1  Studies have shown that including olive oil in your diet can help with heart disease and colon cancer. It is also found to help lower cholesterol. Because it is a monounsaturated oil by substituting it in place of a saturated fat it can reduce blood pressure, inhibit the growth of some cancers, benefit people with and at risk of diabetes, lessen the severity of arthritis and asthma and it can actually help the body maintain a lower weight. There are 4 types of Olive Oil; Extra Virgin is the best, Virgin, Pure, and Extra Light is the least best. You always want to choose the least processed forms which are the Extra Virgin then the Virgin. It will last longer if kept in refrigerator otherwise it will become rancid.

Olive can be used on skin and in hair. You can put straight olive oil (high quality cold pressed) on your skin as an oil and it will help combat aging. It generally won’t cause an allergic reaction. The oil absorbs very quickly and locks in moisture, it doesn’t leave a greasy film behind. People who suffer from oily skin should stay away from olive oil. Here are a few beauty treatments you can use high quality cold pressed olive oil for; four tablespoons full of olive oil warmed up slightly and mixed with sea salt can be used as a skin-tightening peel. It can be mixed together with lemon juice and used as an ideal overnight treatment for wrinkles You can also soak hands in warm olive oil, this makes them supple and is good for fingernails as well.

There are more and more products on the market that contain olive oil. Natural cosmetics are in, it was only natural that olive oil surfaced in the beauty market. It is used in soaps, various beauty products, and in foods. This is just another of nature’s miracle products.
